ViewRanger is a mapping app. Is it the mapping app that Google is to search? I will leave that for you to decide. It’s a good one, even at the basic account level which is free. In their own words: “ViewRanger is your digital guide to the outdoors with downloadable route guides, outdoor maps, and powerful GPS navigation features.” And more, … “Hiking and cycling trails, offline maps and GPS navigation – anywhere in the world.”The best bit as with the best apps is the leverage obtained from the user base. In this instance the user base is uploading all their favourite walks and cycle trails with route maps, picture and descriptions. For those walks starting in Barmouth just click here and research away.Zoom in a little if you just want the routes that start in Barmouth. There are a few walks uploaded by the Barmouth Publicity Association; look out for the distinctive “B” logo.More details of the history of ViewRanger as an idea and company can be found on their website here.
Edit 19/1/24 – ViewRanger has now become “outdooractive”. A list of walks in and around Barmouth can be found here.
I had a disaster with the website which got sickly with a virus and was deleted by my hosting supplier. The links etc included may not be showing. When I get the time I will try and relocate them and update this post.
